A&D ANNUAL 2022

Kirsten Faulkner

Kirsten Faulkner is a designer/maker working and living on unceded Gadigal Land. Streaming music on commercial online platforms and the rise of short-form content has reduced audience engagement when listening to albums. Rather than constantly skipping songs and only listening to the first 30 seconds, the 'KNIT THE ALBUM' pattern book deploys craft practice and the tradition of intentionality to engage music listeners in the sensorial and tactile exploration of sound. Countering our current reductive practice of streaming music via a screen that became the norm during COVID lockdowns, the pattern book provides templates that invite listeners to customise and knit their own merch that represent the sounds of an album in colours and textures.
