A&D ANNUAL 2020

Laura Hunt

Laura Hunt's project designs an experience allowing users to reimagine public space within the context of the informal settlements of Dharavi, India where the stakeholders are residents of the community. The design proposition responds to the grand challenge of easing food security and spatial justice concerns within urban slums by demonstrating speculative ways of food cultivation and placemaking. Focusing on emotional and sustainable outcomes, this project aims to reduce impact on housing, livelihoods and the environment by utilising spaces which do not disrupt foot-traffic, displace vulnerable residents or leave behind harmful contaminants or non-biodegradable plastics.
