Dharavi: Largest Dumping Ground (2020) Digital

A&D ANNUAL 2020

Madhavi Mehndiratta

Madhavi Mehndiratta’s project aims to address one of the communal issues surrounding improper waste management and disposal in Asia’s largest slum, Dharavi, located in the heart of India's financial capital, Mumbai. Madhavi draws attention to alternate methods of waste repurposing by capitalising on waste materials to educate the community about the difficult working conditions of the child ragpickers in Dharavi as well as maximize the value of waste to reduce trash from reaching landfills. The final design solution is a marketing campaign promoted in common neighbourhoods of Dharavi particularly Palwadi, Sheshwadi, and Kuti Wadi to educate the stakeholders specifically residents about sustainable practices to waste management.
