A&D ANNUAL 2022

Maria Thaddea

Maria Thaddea's works emerge from an exploration of culture, identity and philosophy. ‘False Ink-lings; Echo Chambers’ offers an exploration of stereotypes, the questioning of one’s beliefs, and the presentation of different perspectives, focusing on the misconceptions and dichotomies of the world. The work offers an escape from media echo chambers, the epitome of confirmation bias. This volume focuses on the fetishisation of Asian women - a response to the 2021 Atlanta Spa Shootings and the long-established racially prejudiced and misogynistic narrative that may have caused it. The work is intended as an interactive installation where the audience shares their perspective and experiences someone else's.
