A&D ANNUAL 2022

Natalie Youie

Perfect Imperfection' aims to destigmatise Dermatillomania, a skin picking disorder (SPD) that is associated with obsessive compulsive disorder. Although 2-5% of the population experience SPD, the condition is underreported and misunderstood, resulting in feelings of guilt and shame for sufferers. 'Perfect Imperfection' advocates for SPD sufferers through a contemporary jewellery collection that allows people with SPD to express themselves and accept their disorder with confidence. The jewellery designs are accompanied by augmented reality typographic animations of positive affirmations. 'Perfect Imperfection' seeks to publicise the disorder and promote social understanding and acceptance of mental health diversity.
