A&D ANNUAL 2021

Nicola Isaacs

Nicola Isaacs is an emerging artist and illustrator interested in the complex relationships that exist between humans and other biological species. As these tightly knit bonds are manifested through patterns, Nicola aims to capture these connections and wrestle with her own anthropocentric positionality to hopefully one day destroy it. 'Interconnected' was created with pen and ink on paper and sewn together with needle and thread to formulate a large composition depicting the intricate patterns within the natural and human world. Meticulous drawing techniques were used to fabricate a plethora of patterns which were then individually sewn together. Ultimately, Nicola’s work attempts to dismantle her own anthropocentric perspective through representing the convoluted web of interconnections found within the natural and human world, as they are revealed through patterns.
