A&D ANNUAL 2021

Sam Goneis

Sam Goneis is a unique artist and graduate from Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours), who tackles issues closely related to her – both historical and contemporary. She is a Yuin woman from South West Sydney, pursuing her life and love as an artist while teaching others about the complex issues underpinning Australian history, and their continuing relevance today. She also dives into the mysterious and creepy with her black and white pinhole photography and polaroids, making her culture even more known throughout her practice. Alongside her sexuality and identity, Sam’s practice allows her to further explore personal and cultural histories, feeling the pain of others who have experienced these histories first hand. Through her work, she expresses these narratives across digital art and photography, bringing awareness to Australian history in this Country and overseas. Her most recent work is an illustrated series called The Bunyip.
