Sarinah Caecilia
Sarinah Caecilia's practice-led research project explores her personal hybrid identity through the contextual framework of Eurasian identity, questioning what it means to be a Eurasian Australian female artist working within contemporary Australia. Sarinah's hybrid identity consists of Indonesian, Dutch and Australian heritage, and her project highlights and defines the complexities faced when dealing with the Eurasian experience within Australia. Employing an autoethnographic method, Sarinah delves into the familial archive, as well as patterns, motifs, and objects found within the domestic space. By methods of observing, documenting and photographing domestic kitsch objects within small, curated spaces of the home, she examines and interrogates the Eurasian experience. Through the process of collecting and curating, Sarinah curates her own sense of identity, disrupting the familial archive, objects and patterns found within the domestic space.
