A&D ANNUAL 2021

Shahroud Ghahani

Shahroud Ghahani is an Iranian-Australian visual artist who bridges together rich images from two disparate cultures and her experiences of them. Her current practice explores representations of the female body, themes of beauty, the grotesque and power, with a focus on identity within eastern and western traditions. Her artworks also incorporate metaphysical subjects — interweaving dreamscapes, imaginary spaces, displaced objects, and allegorical imagery. The artworks in this series reveal these major aspects of her practice – in particular, automatism and visualising cross-cultural exchanges.
