A&D ANNUAL 2022

Shirui Xiao

The global rate of plastic recycling at 15% means that 85% of plastic waste continues to circulate in landfill and waterways. 'Records of Earth' is a series of ceramics that visualises the damage of microplastics on the human body. The ceramics translate the invisible damage that microplastics can do to humans with the aim to educate the public. The series shows the increasing fragility when more and more plastic is added to the clay body. The ceramic teacups form a gallery of fossilised ceramic objects to unlock the public imagination about the reality of heavy plastics pollution.
