A&D ANNUAL 2021

Xuman Chen

Xumen Chen’s project responds to the Grand Challenge SDG3 Good health and well-being, aiming to help teenagers effectively lose weight by designing innovative sports equipment. The project encourages teenagers to use bicycles that can generate electricity through human power. This electric supply is converted into an interactive wall and smart screen for a running track, motivating teenagers to continue exercising. This equipment is combined with app products that can help record exercise intensity and body data analysis, cultivating healthy and active social activities for teenagers. This design project is sustainable as it relies on human power to generate electricity with potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions. It not only effectively encourages teenagers to exercise during school, but further supports teenagers to build healthy lifestyles. By combining emotional and ethical considerations with sustainable and human-centred design methods, the project aims to make daily exercise programs fun and easier to persist, through different interaction device modes.
