Eliza Faull
D Block Hole, 2023
Large format film photograph of sculptural dig
Faull's practice centres around the thematics of space. What happens when we take the geometric space of an artistic and cultural institution and simplify it down into the raw geometry of its floor plan? This is one of the questions she askes herself throughout her practice. Previously she has created and exhibited works that are a direct representation of floor plans. This was through her sculptural practice. She cuts down pieces of plywood into the shapes of artist institution's e.g Art Gallery of NSW, UNSW Art & Design etc. And exhibited them as the 2D nullified geometric shapes of these heavily cultural spaces. Now her works (still centered heavily around this theme) have taken the direction of sculptural photography. Holes are being dug into the ground in the shapes of what would be the architectonic shape of the space and then photographed on a large format film camera.
