The exploration of ethnological Korean tradition through objects, jewellery and graphic design is evident in Kim’s design practice, where the synthesis of cultural stories in her work invite the audience into a personal construal of her ethnic homeland. She creates distinct visual languages through patterns, shape and colour that are iterated through experiences in both her internal and external world; in the home, in nature and from conversation.
An engagement in both tactile forms of making in metal work and textiles as well as digital applications carries the intention of delving into story-telling as a means of translating cultural significance in a contemporary context. Themes of community, environment, language and connection evolves throughout her work.
She currently works on Burramattagal and Gadigal land in Sydney, NSW.
