Shot White (detail), 2010, encaustic wax paint on masonite board
Shot White is a series of small paintings based on screen shots from the 1996 black comedy film Fargo. Each image freezes a moment suspended in travel. Using a thick wax paint applied with a palette knife, I alternately added paint and scrapped it away to create tonal value and achieve a sense of perspective. In this way I aimed to suggest form, rather than describe it, giving the paintings their eerie sense of foreboding.
