Stitch Folding Chair

A common folding chair found mouldy and unstable but made of solid timber recovered from council clean up was a good challenge to my theory on material and process informing the way we regard objects and our environment. Sanding back the frame to reveal the soft texture and colours of the timber and replacing the broken and blind rivets with adjustable high tensile bolts reinstated the structural integrity as well as providing the means to fix any future faults. The mouldy canvas seat was replaced by leather off cuts and hand stitched to create a visual feature of the usually discarded hyde edge. Both materials were selected for their natural tactility and value. These materials are intended to influence the user's behavior to avoid the exposure that caused the initial damage and disposal.
