Femme Forms, 2013
My work experiments with juxtaposing the traditional conventions and associations surrounding femininity with the traditionally unconventional portrayal of the female experience and perspective. Working within the medium of textiles contextualizes the work, as traditionally considered a feminine practice, needlework and embroidery has been an area in which women could be free to share their experiences in other wise male dominated societies. My work aims at examining the notions associated with the traditional idea of femininity such as; the idea of woman as comforting, soft, decorative, pink, fleshy, warm, and nude and contrasting them with non-traditional representations of women such as of gender blending, the representation of female blood.
