Happenstance
The physical act of felting, and the circular motion I used in fashioning felt with my fingertips in an earlier work, led me to further explore this swirling, centrifugal action with different materials. When I repeated the same circular movement with a gold pen, I discovered an arresting and very unexpected beauty. The cutting gives the gestural swirling action a structure and intent and highlights the fusion between the instinctive and the worked.
