Monika Cvitanovic Zaper

Monika Cvitanovic Zaper explores possibilities at the intersection of expanded painting and craft traditions, often working with reclaimed fabrics and multi-layered substrates. Informed by feminism and migration, she is interested in the rereading of histories and working through personal memory. Feeling that her making is largely informed by historically overlooked traditions of women’s craft, her intention is to bring them into the context of contemporary art. By doing so, she aims to honour and celebrate resourcefulness and resilience of the women before her, as well as to challenge the persisting hierarchy of art materials.
