A&D ANNUAL 2020

Yesha Joshi

‘Piece by Piece’ is a product design system that facilitates discourse regarding issues of chemical dyes and synthetic materials in the fashion industry. The project consists of naturally dyed modular pieces systematically connected to assemble a garment. Two garments are created as examples of the product system, which allows the consumer to customise colour schemes and their garments through modularity. The option to replace and re-dye pieces once they show wear-and-tear provides longevity for the garment in use. The considered process of assembling pieces together provides an opportunity to reflect on the garments, thereby creating a spiritually sustainable design. Through material and process transposition, the project provides a range of natural dye shades and a zero-waste product system.
