A&D ANNUAL 2021

Angelique Cavanaugh

Angelique Cavanaugh’s practice investigates our human perception of time, specifically the notion of ephemerality. She works to articulate how time is ever evolving and cannot be truly captured. Rather, its process can be documented in our presence with objects, surrendering to outcomes of chance, and witnessing colour’s dynamic flow. Angelique’s project ‘Ephemerality’ visualises these ideas through her use of red cabbage and chiffon. She sets up a stage for these materials to act in time, allowing aesthetic outcomes to arise authentically in the present moment. In doing so, she uses methods of observation and repetition to present time’s transformative nature. In removing her authority, this project establishes a great sense of healing for Angelique, releasing future expectations as all moments are made to evolve.
