A&D ANNUAL 2021
Bonnie Graham
Bonnie Graham’s design work is underpinned by a belief in the power of design for social impact, aiming to tackle some of the world’s most challenging social and environmental problems. Working for an international aid agency in recent years has shaped her knowledge and understanding of global needs immensely, galvanising her drive to address these issues through design.Bonnie's project ‘Blueprint 2050’ addresses growing global resource shortages, and the inequality in consumption levels. It imagines a world in 2050 with a newly adopted economic and social system, where ‘invisible’ environmental and social impacts resulting from everyday actions are capitalised. Humans are assigned a resource quota, and resources are assigned a monetary value through a taxation and offset scheme. The project aims to reflect the interconnectedness of humanity — not only the way in which actions of Australians are linked to impacts on people across the globe, but also the way in which our small, everyday actions are directly linked to social and environmental detriment. ‘Blueprint 2050’ demands that we engage with the world around us with a sense of reciprocity: when we take something, we must give something back.
