A&D ANNUAL 2021
Claudia Kent
Claudia Kent is a Darug woman living on Darkinjung land on the Central Coast. Her art practice explores abstracted depictions of landscapes to communicate her connection to her Indigenous identity. Claudia's identity is often something that is denied by those around her, and this is represented through swirled and blurred colours that blend together in her landscapes. Often, her works encompass a reclamation of identity through connecting herself to the land and water she lives on. 'Waterbodies' explores a connection to local landscapes and place. Each vessel serves as its own body of water. The work is inspired by the bird's eye view, like the viewer is flying above the landscape and witnessing abstracted depictions of the unspoiled watering holes, rock pools, lagoons and beaches that line our coast.
