Lucy Teague
Lucy Teague’s practice explores identity, the body and feminist ideology through experimental methods of moving image and photography. Her works often depict surreal imagery utilising techniques and methods of performance, animation, mark-making and collage. Lucy’s work investigates memory, our histories, and gender identity, and questions normative structures in our society. In her recent work 'How do you see me?', videos and scans capturing the artist’s body are abstracted and animated, creating a tension between the two forms. This challenges scopophilic instincts, women’s objectification and condemned narcissism, as well as the deeply rooted controversy surrounding the artist’s embodiment in art, as stimulating and arousing the conventions behind the male gaze.
