‘RK Override’ explores the morality of AI ethics through the lens of a first-person narrative-focused game where the player wrestles for control against a replicant AI companion. The work utilises diegetic elements to immerse the player in performing the protagonist’s scripted actions. Alan He collaborated with Martin Madrid and Michael Sadler to produce the work, drawing from their backgrounds as consumers of games and interactive fiction. The work aims to subvert the agency often provided by games by posing the question: “In the age of artificial intelligence, how responsible would an AI be in preventing irrational human behaviour?”
