Cecilia Wong
Filtered Conversations' explores the distortion of memories and the processing of grief through the deconstruction and reconstruction of memory. Within each of these three works, spray-painting stencils are utilised as a key form of mark making. Bitmapped family photos are hand-cut as a way of breaking down images into digestible units and as a methodology for processing memories. The spray-paint that passes through these stencil structures reflects how memory shifts after grief, filtered through structures of distortion. Cecilia Wong further extrapolates on deconstruction and reconstruction in her practice through the incorporation of industrial materials.
