Jack Conwell
Growing up amidst the rise of the consumer internet and the emergence of AI, Jack Conwell witnessed firsthand how these developments have evolved. Data centres, for instance, are now exerting significant pressure on the environment and local infrastructure systems in his neighbourhood as more hyperscale centres are built in the Bradfield electorate of Sydney. Through a sculpture made with recycled technology parts and a speculative video about the potential implications of data centres for the future, ‘Hidden Hardware’ redefines the ubiquity of digital systems and the data centres that support them, illustrating their material and environmental effects.
