Jess Curran
Jess Curran’s work seeks to refute shame and draw on practices of self-care through crafting methods. With a focus on materiality, her research aims to critique the contradictions of hyper-consumption in contemporary consumer culture. Jess’s project seeks to reclaim space for larger bodies through forms of expanded self-portraiture, and challenges moralised languages surrounding the body. The work utilises large scale stuffed text soft-sculptures and hand-beaded embroidery, focusing on treating the body with slowness, softness, and care.
