Jess Thompson

Jess Thompson is an artist living and making on Garigal Land. Preoccupied with reorienting ideas of failure and rupture, her work aims to generate pathways that reimagine the bounds of normativity, homemaking, and friendship. Leaning into expanded sculpture and painting, she subverts material expectations by combining hammered metal, disconnected pipes, and oozing gelatine alongside paint to capture moments of fracture. Through these processes, the pressures compounded by expectations to function according to norms are finally released.
