Monika Cvitanović

Monika Cvitanović's practice-based research examines the cultural narratives of women’s textile labour through auto-ethnography and stitching. Her process investigates textiles as a non-verbal language that can challenge capitalist patriarchal frameworks. By highlighting laborious artistic handwork, her work critiques the unsustainable practices prevalent in textile production. Cvitanovic incorporates a process of ‘sloppy stitching’, serving as both a conceptual and practical approach to exploring the temporal aspects of labour and artistic creation. Her works cultivate an aesthetics of care, bridging the intimate context of domestic life with wider systemic issues.
