Renae Bennett

This project invites the audience to walk through time and reflect on the past and present experiences of women in textiles and creative roles. The fashion industry, while reliant on women’s consumption and labour, has often failed to recognise and promote women in executive positions. The swatches represent the three waves of feminism and include quotes from feminist critics including Virginia Woolf, Linda Nochlin, and the Guerilla Girls. Together they reveal the constraints which prevented women of their time from reaching their creative potential. Why, then do women still struggle for recognition today?
