How do materials translate experiences into tangible expressions? ‘Mapping Materiality’ brings together artists and designers working with a diverse range of materials that speak to location, identity, and lived experience. The conversation aims to unravel how practitioners identify and embrace materials, and the ways that materiality can inform and guide creative practice.

Each maker considers materiality as a tool for connecting fragments, providing a binding role in the artmaking process while serving as a conduit for storytelling. This program invites audiences to directly handle a range of materials featured in the selected projects, including copper, silver, indigo-dyed cotton, and hand-made incense. Together the artists and designers explore how these materials engage the senses and influence the way we interact with art.
