Re-Source
This work alludes to the resourceful culture of ‘making- do’ through the transformation of waste into something playful. I have used a tactile medium to explore the non-physical web of interaction in cyber space. Playful ‘faces’ and their ‘masks’ depict the ability for people to re-create themselves through contrived online identities, this disembodied existence allowing a person to reveal and hide things according to how they wish to be perceived by an online audience. As we increasingly rely on these technologies, reality and relationships are relocated, and become faster, more convenient and less intimate. Friends are re-translated as an audience of followers, and there has emerged a culture of watching and being watched, a strange paradox of power, where the subject is at once voyeur and subject of social scrutiny.
